The first Service Delivery Indicators report for Tanzania was released in April 2012. Tanzania along with Senegal was one of two countries where SDI was pilot-tested.

The main objective of the pilot was to test the survey instruments in the field and to verify that robust indicators of service delivery quality could be collected with a single facility-level instrument in different settings. It was decided that the pilot should include an Anglophone country with a different structure from the Francophone pilot country, Senegal.

The surveys were conducted in Tanzania in the spring and summer of 2010.  Data were collected from 175 health facilities and 180 primary schools, both rural and urban, with the support of partner organization, Research on Poverty Alleviation.
